Our Learning

Science

Our Science lessons aim to provide pupils with a rich body of knowledge and a range of scientific process skills. Pupils usually study one topic per half term and a coherent sequence of lessons is planned to ensure pupils build knowledge and scientific skills progressively over the course of the topic. Meaningful links are made with other curriculum subjects where possible.

Scientific skills, such as predicting outcomes, fair and comparative testing and analysing results are explicitly taught through a range of activities and investigations. This enables pupils to develop their critical thinking skills and enhance their communication skills through describing scientific outcomes. Pupils use a variety of scientific equipment and resources to gather evidence, test ideas and enhance their understanding. Pupils scientific knowledge is assessed at the end of each topic. Outside of the weekly Science lessons a broad variety of experiences are provided including Science workshops at Abingdon School, visits from external providers and STEM week.
