Our Learning

Maths

In Maths lessons, we follow the principles of Mastery to ensure pupils develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts and can use a full range of reasoning and problem solving skills. To achieve this deep understanding, a wide range of visual representations are used, reasoning behind processes is emphasised, connections are made between different mathematical topics and precise mathematical language is used to convey ideas with clarity and precision.

The lessons are designed so that all pupils have an opportunity to develop fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills. The learning needs of individuals are addressed through careful scaffolding, questioning and appropriate rapid intervention where necessary.  Pupils who grasp concepts quickly are challenged through deepening activities and being offered rich and sophisticated problems. Sufficient time is spent on key concepts to ensure learning is well developed and deeply embedded before moving on. Over time, pupils become knowledgeable and confident mathematicians, who think critically to solve a range of mathematical problems.
