Our Learning

PSHE

At Rush Common School, we teach Personal, Social, Health Education using the Jigsaw Programme. ‘Jigsaw is an innovative whole-school, lesson-a-week scheme of work for PSHE. It covers all the statutory requirements for Relationships and Health Education and has a major focus on Emotional and Mental health.

We allocate 45 minutes to PSHE every week in order to teach the PSHE knowledge and skills in a developmental and age-appropriate way. Class teachers deliver the weekly lessons to their own classes. These explicit lessons are reinforced and enhanced in many ways: Assemblies and collective worship, praise and reward system, Learning Charter, through relationships child to child, adult to child and adult to adult across the school. We aim to ‘live’ what is learnt and apply it to everyday situations in the school community. The overview of the programme can be seen by following the links below.

‘Jigsaw is more than a scheme of work for PSHE. It is a whole-school philosophy with children and young people at heart, which nurtures the positive and inclusive culture of the whole school community’ (Jan Levers, creator of Jigsaw).
