Our Learning

RE

Throughout their time at Rush Common School, children will learn about a number of aspects of the main religions practised in the UK.  Children will investigate elements of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhi (Sikhism), Judaism and Buddhism allowing children to increase their knowledge of these religions and increase their critical thinking skills.

Each year group will look at a specific area of religion (festivals, places of worship, important religious texts, stories from faiths, traditions within religions and important figures / people) and children will be enabled to discuss the differences between these aspects of the different religions. This helps children make meaningful links, deepens their knowledge and enhances their communication skills.  By developing children’s awareness and understanding of different religions (and acknowledging that some people choose not to follow a specified religion), we hope that children will become more empathetic and understanding of the world around them.

Parents have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of the RE curriculum.  We hope that our inclusive approach and curriculum will ensure that parents will not feel they need to exercise this right.  If you have any concerns about the RE curriculum, please contact your child's teacher.
