Space Day in Year 5

On Tuesday 27th April 2021, Year 5 spent time developing their knowledge of space following on from their learning in Science. After learning about the Curiosity and Perseverance Rovers on Mars (including watching the landing footage), we all wrote haikus about space and scientific developments or discoveries. The children learnt about the principle of aerodynamics by making their own paper aeroplanes and testing them on the field as well as practising their Maths skills with space based questions. In the afternoon, Year 5 were inspired by the artist Peter Thorpe to create their own pieces of space art.
