The Boccia competition was held at Faringdon Leisure Centre on Tuesday 19th March, with 25 teams from schools across the Vale participating.
Boccia is similar to bowls: each team has 6 balls to play and the game is won by getting as many balls as close to the white jack as possible. The jack is thrown by the players and therefore can move around the court each game, making the skill level involved much higher.
We entered with one team consisting of Leythan, Luc and Robin. It was the first competition for both Luc and Robin, and thankfully the extra practice with Mrs Furlonger and Mrs Rowland really paid off.
We had 4 group games, beating Shrivenham and St Blaise, losing to Appleton and drawing with St Swithuns. We came top runner up and qualified to the quarter finals where we beat Botley 5-2. The semi finals saw some close ‘ends’ against our group nemesis, Appleton. Unfortunately we lost 3 -1. (Appleton became the overall winners). We played Faringdon in the 3rd place play off and just lost 3-2 eventually finishing a fantastic 4th place.
